A young couple, once buoyed by the boundless joy of expecting a child, now finds themselves adrift in a sea of shadows following the sudden and devastating loss of their newborn. Their world, once filled with the promise of a future, has been shattered into fragments of grief, and as the days and nights stretch into an endless, foggy void, strange, supernatural occurrences begin to blur the already fragile line between their overwhelming sorrow and something far more inexplicable. In the quiet hours of the night, when the house falls silent except for the creak of the old floorboards and the distant drip of a faucet, they start to hear whispers that aren’t there—a soft, mournful murmur that seems to emanate from the corners of the room, as if the walls themselves are weeping. The air grows cold, icy despite the warmth of the furnace, and shadows twist and dance across the walls, taking on the fleeting shapes of tiny hands or a faint, spectral outline of a child. At first, they dismiss these as tricks of the mind, the natural hallucinations of grief, but as the occurrences escalate, their fear deepens into a gnawing dread. One evening, while sitting in the dimly lit living room, a photograph of their newborn slips from the hands of the mother and drifts to the floor. As it lands, the frame flickers, and the image on the picture begins to shimmer, as if the baby’s face is breathing, moving slightly in the stillness. The father reaches for it, trembling, and when he touches the glass, it’s as if he’s touched a living thing, cold and clammy beneath his fingertips. That night, the couple finds their son’s tiny sock, lost weeks before, draped over the end of their bed, and the room fills with a faint, sweet scent of baby powder—a scent that lingers, eerie and familiar, long after they’ve searched the house and found no trace of where it could have come from. They consult friends, who offer the usual comfort of “time will heal” and “it’s just your grief,” but the supernatural signs grow bolder. The temperature plummets, and they wake to find the windows frosted over in intricate patterns, like tiny snowflakes forming the shape of a star. Their electronics, once a source of connection, begin to malfunction: the television flickers to life on its own, playing static that resolves into a lullaby, the one their daughter had hummed to the baby in the womb. The husband, a rational man, starts to question his own sanity, while the wife, clinging to the last threads of hope, wonders if this is some form of divine communication, a sign that their baby is still with them, in a way they can’t yet understand. As the line between grief and the unexplained frays further, they realize that the supernatural isn’t just haunting them—it’s a manifestation of their pain, a way for their broken hearts to grasp at something, anything, to hold onto the child they lost. The shadows, the whispers, the cold touch—they’re not evil spirits, but echoes of their love, their loss, their desperate need to believe that the bond they shared with their baby is unbroken, even if it’s now in a realm they can’t fully see or touch. And so, as they sit in the darkness, surrounded by these inexplicable phenomena, they must confront not only the grief that threatens to drown them but also the possibility that the supernatural is a language their baby is using to speak to them, even from beyond the veil.
